Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants
(OCASI) Annual
Professional Development Conference. Oct. 18-20, 2006, Orillia, Ontario Abstract How to Empower Newcomers in the Age of Knowledge? New development models and theories advocate the use of the exploding information revolution to create growth opportunities for individuals, groups and communities. In the proposed presentation, I will share information and insights with colleagues and other facilitators on innovative approaches to empower Canadian newcomers in the age of knowledge. New approaches are needed to facilitate the integration of newcomers in the Canadian knowledge based economy. As facilitators, our job is to help our clients make use of the universal storehouse of knowledge and information (internet) to achieve their personal and professional potential in the era of globalization. Further, we (as settlement and employment facilitators) are requested to help our newcomer clients develop their life long learning strategies to enable the expansion of their human capacity.
